Today was such a good day because Dr. Kamara took time out of her post grad schedule to have lunch with us. I remember when we met back in April, we suggested to have lunch before she started residency and we were all happy when she kept her word. Her advice, transparency, mentorship and encouraging words let’s us know that this pre-med journey will be worth it in the end. I hope to be able to pay it forward once I have Dr. in front of my name as well.👩🏾‍⚕️💕 - - - - - - #mentorship #mentor #mentee #futuredoctor #premed #surgeon #blackdoctors #futuredoctors #blackgirlmagic #blackdoctorsmatter #medicine #premedlife #premedprobs #premedstudent #womeninscience #STEM #stemeducation

Hey guys!! I’ve been using this outside source to help with my MCAT studies not sure if you guys have heard about it but I find it useful. The website is called MCATSELFPREP and it breaks down each subject into subunits with videos and a quizlet at the end so that you can review what you have learned in each subunit. Anyways happy studying ✌🏽

The daunting internal medicine rotation is coming up and orthopedic surgery is ending way too soon! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Although I’ve done numerous elective placements in orthopedic surgery in the past, I’m still seeing new presentations and surgeries for the first time which has been awesome. The neat thing about being at a community hospital in a smaller city is that you really get to see patients from cradle to grave since there’s no children’s hospital nearby. I’ve really enjoyed seeing cute kids in the fracture clinic with their colourful casts and learning the different fracture patterns in the paediatric population. It’s quite amazing how fast kids bones heal clinically and on X-ray imaging. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ve worked with numerous surgeons the past week and half and saw a wide array of orthopedic surgeries including total knee replacement, total hip replacement, meniscectomy, meniscus repair, ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, distal tibia open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF), distal fibula ORIF and cyst removal. I also got to use the saw in total knee replacements !! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Happy Wednesday pals! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #medicalschool #medicine #medschool #womeninmedicine #medicalstudent #studymotivation #doctor #studyblr #premed #premedmotivation #orthopod #orthopedic #surgery #studyspo #studyspot #medschoollife #premedstudent #orthopedicsurgery #medicalblogger #ortho #nurse #paramedic #lifestyleblogger #pa # #laurier #uwaterloo #mcmaster #dtk

My face after I finally found a place to stay in my new city. I leave home tomorrow to start a new chapter. All I packed is some dress clothes socks and underwear. Less than a month ago I had no idea what my future had in store for me. Incredibly grateful for this opportunity, and for these final moments with my closest friends and family. #hereicomepittsburgh . . . . #beyondmedicine #medschool #medicalschool #medstudent #medicalstudent #pastudent #familymedicine #familymed #premed #premedstudent #nurse #nursing

Hey y’all! I am a pre-med sophomore currently attending a community college. Growing up, I’d always aspire to become a physician, to serve the people around the world, who aren’t privileged enough to receive the fundamental rights of health care assistance. Hence, to achieve my dreams, I decided to involve myself in the Instagram community to share my journey from being a pre-med to hopefully medical student and everything in between while learning from the amazing individuals who have been through the whole process and are willing to help us, pre-med students, out. #premedstudent #medicine #undergradlife

Just a little biochemistry/genetics cartoon humor to start your afternoon ❤️ Because of this cartoon I will never forget what a methyl does during transcription . Use cartoons, made up stories, acronyms, and anything else that can make memorizing things as fun as possible! They may be silly, but they’ll definitely help the information stick 👌🏽 . . . . . #MabuhayMed #MabuhayToLive #PinayPhysician #FutureIsFeminine #PreMedStudent #PreMed #PreMedLife #PreMedAdventures #PreMed411 #Medicine #Methyl #Transcription #Cartoon #Memorizing #JourneyToMedicalSchool #UnumFam

this was my face after seeing my FIRST robotic surgery using the Da Vinci Xi 😍😱 . . just another amazing day in the OR today! got to see some general surgeries and it was so exciting. i love learning about different specialties and surgical techniques. shadowing is one of my favorite parts of this journey and i’m so blessed with some of the opportunities i’ve gotten through it! i start work on Friday so i’m sure my time will be limited after that and that i won’t have as much time to shadow and spend time with my favorite doctors. literally the cath lab manager knows me so well that he just says “hey bella” and lets me walk right through. but hey, at least i’ll make some money and get some PCE while helping people 🤗☺️! hope you all have a happy #humpday and rest of the week!!! love y’all!!! . . . . . . . . #premed #studylife #medschool #premedstudent #medicine #biomed #chem #futuredoctor #aspiringdoctor #medlife #goalchaser #MD #DO #collegestudent #studying #girlsinstem #stem #studytips #ilooklikeasurgeon #womeninmedicine #femaledoctors #obgyn #shadow #girlswhoheal #caffeineaddict #ilooklikeasurgeon #christiandoctor #medicalmissions #womeninstem #babeswithblades

It takes a lot to be 100% and fully comfortable with my body. I've struggled (and sometimes still do) with body image and fully loving what my body looks like. I realize that even in my healthiest of states, I'm never fully satisfied. At first I was frustrated thinking that I'm not fully recovered and that I need to be COMPLETELY happy with my body. But truth is, I've accepted its okay to not be fully and completely satisfied with my body. That doesn't mean I want it to change dramatically, or that I don't like how I look - it just means that there is room for improvement and that I always want to strive to be better. Realizing this completely changed negative thoughts into positive ones. I love my body and I love what it is capable of and how strong it is, and all the potential it has to become even stronger. I've had episodes of not feeling fully satisfied with how my body looks, and being in this cycle of getting upset with myself for thinking that in the first place. I wanted to share this for anyone who has or does feel this sometimes, and know that it's OKAY to want to BE BETTER. With this change in mindset I realize instead of feeling bad, I feel more motivated to work on myself not just externally, but internally as well ❣️ . . . #fitgirl #fitnessjourney #edrecovery #bodyimage #bodypositivity #girlswholift #inspiration #workoutmotivation #workhardplayhard #premedstudent #healthylifestyle #cardio

Today is World Refugee Day. As of May, over 2000 children have been displaced & separated from their families at our borders. If you see photos of innocent children being placed in tents, forced to sleep on the floor after being ripped away from their parents embrace, & your first response is “did they come here legally?” Then we don’t have a difference in political opinion. We have a difference in morality. • Each of us have our own personal reason why we chose to pursue a career in medicine, but we must be reminded of the 4 pillars of ethics: Autonomy, respect for the patients/clients right to self determination (to pursue safety and prosperity). Beneficence, the duty to DO GOOD. Non-maleficence, the duty to NOT DO BAD. Justice, the duty to treat ALL people EQUALLY and EQUITABLY. • how can we become good healthcare providers if we & our neighbors are ignoring these pillars of ethics? The United States of America needs to stand on the right side of history. • Please dial 1(855)472-8930 to be connected to your member of Congress and demand from your Representative that the Administration needs to stop separating vulnerable families and support the S3036 bill or text “Resist” to 504-09. #supportrefugees

t’s always refreshing to see women making history. Especially when they look like us! On June 12, 2018, Patrice A. Harris, MD, became the first black woman elected as president by the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates. Harris was nominated as its president elect at their annual meeting in Chicago. Harris is a psychiatrist from Atlanta. Her journey to be a service to others began at West Virginia University................ • • • • Check out the full blog on The Modern Black Girl website (Link in bio✨). By @xo5.olive

Throwing it back to a week ago when I was celebrating finishing preclinical with these three women that make up a big part of my support system❤️ . . Having people around you that understand what you’re going through and fill you with love and support is so important...wouldn’t change my support system for anything🌹
