Post soir: J'ai ÉNORMÉMENT pris sur moi pour ce repas! Au début je pensais prendre juste des pâtes à la tomate! Sauf que j'ai pris des tagliatelles à la crème et aux champignons et parmesan! (Ma mère me regardait alors pas de photo du plat...) Alors que j'avais pris un dessert ce midi et un goûter!! Au début j'en ai laissé un peu. Au final j'ai tout mangé! Mais c'est pas fini! Ma mère me dit "tu veux un dessert?" Je dis "oui!" Et j'ai pris quoi? Pas une petite salade de fruit, non, j'ai pris un tiramisu! Que j'ai mangé ENTIER!!( J'ai juste laissé un peu de biscuit, y avait trop de café) j'avais le ventre énorme. Mais ça me prouve que je peux manger plus que ce que je pensais. Et que je peux vraiment redevenir celle que j'étais avant. As it turns out, being overly anxious about health is actually unhealthy. The more I listen, observe and learn, the more convinced I am that our minds and bodies don’t function well at extremes. Health will find you somewhere in the middle. . On a personal note, this was absolutely the case for me. (For new followers, there was a time where I struggled with severe Orthorexia, which I’ve now learned is closely related to OCD and/or somatic/illness anxiety disorders). Learning that what I was experiencing was pathological and actually not normal or healthy (as our current “health” climate might lead someone to believe) was the first step toward healing. Mixed beet salad! Do you know any other restaurant who puts that many beets on their salads 🤗 so good! Also I did a thing I never do. Ate the salad fully dressed! To be honest she did it before I had a chance to tell her dressing on the side or light dressing. She just started making it in all its glory and I did not freak out one bit. It was my birthday last week and and I decided to make a carrot 🥕 cake 🍰 to celebrate!! . . For the past few years, I’ve been making vegan carrot cakes (gross 🤢) or Paleo carrot cakes (not bad, but not the real thing) or not eating cake at all! . . Even my 12 year old son commented that it was so nice to see me celebrating my birthday with cake! Wow 😮 I didn’t even know he noticed. But guess what? Our kids are watching everything we do. And when we say that certain foods are “bad” or that because cake isn’t on our diet we can’t eat it —> they notice and internalize that! . . This year, I fully enjoyed some carrot cake. And not just one slice on my birthday, but another piece the next day as well! 👌🏻 . . It wasn’t a “cheat!” I didn’t need to eat less throughout my day. I didn’t need to exercise harder the next morning. I wasn’t “bad.” I was just enjoying my favourite dessert and the company I was with. That’s it! . . Food is meant to nourish us, but it’s also meant to be enjoyed. Trying to substitute with something “healthier” is really F’d up. Just enjoy the F’ing cake 🎂 . . I’m curious 🤔 are you still substituting your favourite treats with “healthier” versions? Are you willing to eat the real thing next time and just enjoy it? Is this something you need to work on?

Coming from a big Italian family, spaghetti (or any pasta, for that matter) is a dish that made an appearance at many family dinners. I’m not complaining, though, because who doesn’t love spaghetti? Tonight, I decided to take the classic spaghetti and give it a little bit of an upgrade! . So what is that upgrade, you may ask? For starters, I used @eatbanza chickpea pasta for a little extra fiber and protein, and then I mixed in some garlic and herb cream cheese from @melaniesmedleys. To finish it off, I stuck it in the oven and baked it so that it turned out slightly crispy and crunchy. Even though no dish will ever be able to top regular old spaghetti and meatballs as my favorite Italian dish, this upgraded version came pretty darn close! . .
